Benedetto Spartà was born on the 10th od december 1926 in Catania, Sicily. Whereas the place of birth is confirmed, the birthday could have also been December 4th. Since birth was mostly given at home, it often happened that the registration process for newly borns did not work as precisely as nowadays. For that reason every year it was complicated to have a proper birthday party and he was always referring to the uncertancy of his birth date.

I took this picture in 1997 on a train, traveling to Sicily. It was the first portrait I took on camera in my life.

Benedetto died on the 21st of march 2002. He was my grandfather.
